Currently, the economic market condition in the United States is in recession. This slowdown in the economy has also greatly impacted real estate sales, which has halted to historical lows. Many economists expect that this recession will continue until mid-2009, at which point the economy will begin a prolonged recovery period.

There are over 55,000 janitorial and cleaning services establishments in the United States. These businesses produce over $21 billon dollars a year in gross receipts. Additionally, the business employs over 1 million people, and generates payroll figures of $10 billion dollars a year. The industry has experienced a tremendous rate of growth over the last ten years. The industry from 2000 to 2005 experienced growth of more than 51% over the five year period. This industry is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States. As more businesses enter the market, the need for janitorial and general cleaning/maintenance services is expected to continually increase. Ms. Doe expects that most of these larger and medium sized businesses will outsource their janitorial needs to a third party as the expenses associated with maintain in-house janitorial services are much higher than outsourcing.
