Juice Bar SWOT Analysis

Strengths

Juice bars are able to generate substantial margins from their sales of fresh juices, other beverages, and food products. Generally, margins of 70% to 80% are not uncommon. In high rent areas, the gross margins may be more substantial. The startup costs for a new juice bar range from $30,000 to $150,000 depending on location and the initial scope of the business. The demand for juice beverages does not wane during times of economic recession. As such, juice bars are generally a strong investment in any economic climate. The popularity of juice bars have increased substantially over the past twenty years as people are now much more conscious of their healthy and lifestyle. This trend is expected to continue (especially among middle and upper income people).

Weaknesses

Much like other retail food and beverage businesses, competition among juice bars is intense. Not only do these businesses have direct competition, but they also face competition from cafes and restaurants. As such, it is imperative that these businesses develop a plan to properly differentiate itself from similar companies in their respective market. The operating costs of a juice bar are moderately high. Additionally, the inventory (juices) can spoil. It is of the utmost importance that these businesses institute proper food handling protocols and procedures.

Opportunities

Juice bars have the potential to expand their revenues greatly. Foremost, these businesses can generate income from outside of their locations by developing mobile operations. This is one of the quickest ways that these companies can expand operations. The other way to expand is through the development of subsequent locations. This is the most economically viable way for a new juice bar to boost bottom line income. This usually requires the sourcing of additional capital. Banks usually are willing to provide substantial capital support for the development of new locations for a profitable juice bar operation.

Threats

The only real threat stems for juice bars is ongoing competitive issues. There are not current pieces of legislation or regulation that would impact the way that juice bars operate.
